That time of year is almost upon us. The aim of the Flu immunisation is to protect people who would be vulnerable to complications if they caught Flu.
It is strongly recommended that the following groups therefore receive the Flu immunisation yearly.
People with:
Asthma, Emphysema, Chronic Bronchitis, Chronic Obstruction Pulmonary Disease, etc,
Heart Disease, Kidney Failure, Diabetes and other Hormone illnesses, a poor immune system for whatever reason and those over 65 years.
If you require any medical treatment whilst the surgery is closed, please contact 0845 408 8000
Alternatively, if you need medical advice you can call the NHS Direct helpline on 0845 4647
At Lister House Surgery, we are committed to improving appointment availability by enabling patients to see a GP within 24 hours of a request.
The Government requires that a Patient is seen within 48 hours of the request. Please Note, patients can be seen by any GP.
If you need to see a GP you can make an appointment on the same day. Contact your surgery throughout the day and you will be offered an appointment for that day.
The appointment may be at either Wiveliscombe or Milverton surgery, we cannot guarantee the Dr of choice or the surgery nearest to you. We will try and match your request as closely as possible.
Alternatively, you can book a telephone consultation as part of the normal GP surgery.
If this is not convenient then there are pre-bookable appointments available.
Available each day between 11am and 11.30 am.
Booked by calling the reception staff as for a normal appointment, let them know that you wish to make a telephone appointment. You will be given a time and asked to be available 15 mins either side of the designated time which allows for surgeries running early or late.
These appointments are scheduled for 5 mins, the GP will call you as close to the time as possible but cannot make calls to mobile phones.
Please make sure you confirm your land line number with the reception staff, when making the appointment.
The GP may advise you to make an appointment , following a consulation, for a few weeks time.
Providing the date is within 6 weeks, the receptionist will identify a time for you as close as possible to the target date with the Dr of your choice.
You may book an appointment up to 6 weeks ahead if you wish, and choose the Dr you would prefer to see.
Choice of date and time may be limited but you will be given an appointment as close as possible to your request.
Each week we offer between 525 and 540 GP appointments of which approximately 10% of patients fail to attend. If you cannot make your appointment for any reason, PLEASE inform the surgery as soon as possible. We can then use the appointment for someone else.
Missed AppointmentsDuring 2007 – 2472 patients missed their appointments at this practice. We were unable to offer these appointments to other patients.
Not to be confused with the National Patient Survey carried out by Mori on behalf of the Government, the surgery will be carrying out its own survey between Nov 07 and Jan 08, which will be analysed by Exeter University.
Scores on this year's survey are overall, up on last year by 13%. The surgery is above the National average in every measure except the comfort of the waiting room.
This remains an area that we are unable to greatly influence, staff already operate from a porta-cabin and internal improvements are limited to funding streams from the Primary Care Trust.
The area requiring most effort is to improve public information in regards the appointment system. This is in hand, information is available on the surgery website, press releases to the local parish magazines and Wiveliscombe Messenger, Surgery Newsletters and during the summer a practice nurse, GP and the practice manager all took the opportunity to talk on 10 Radio to respond to questions raised.
So Far this year with your help we have raised.
So a big thank you for your support
The drive within the NHS is aimed at moving services from the hospital into the community i.e. towards GP surgeries and community hospitals.
Wellington Community hospital has recently been modernised and is now able to take on much more work.
Surgeries are due for an upgrade and, although we have the staff to run more clinics, we need more space to do so.
The surgery has expanded to a porta-cabin but this is just temporary relief to the problem.
A major change will be larger premises but this remains subject to approval by the Primary Care Trust.
Repeat prescriptions can be sent to the surgery by:
The main surgery telephone number is not available to take prescription requests.
The Wiveliscombe chemist now collects prescriptions from the surgery each morning at 9am.
Collected prescriptions will be dispensed and available for collection from the chemist after 12 noon the next working day.
To join this scheme, please ask for a form from the surgery.
Please remember that for Public Holidays the surgery will be shut
If you have any comments you would like to make about services we offer, whether good or bad, please do not hesitate to contact me.
