Blood Test Results

Please call after 11am

Collected samples are sent daily to the Laboratory for testing. We generally expect results to be returned electronically within 36 hours (although this is not the case for all blood tests). Your GP will receive the analysis and either

  • File as routine, no further action needed
  • Request staff to contact you for a further appointment. This could be for an explanation of the analysis and maybe a change in medication.
  • Contact you directly (only if urgent).

If we do not make telephone contact with you within one week of the sample being taken (unless you are told it will take longer), you can assume the test shows a routine result. Unfortunately, due to the sheer volume of tests the surgery processes, it is not possible to inform patients in writing of clear results.

If you do wish to know the result, please allow at least 3 working days to elapse before contacting front desk reception staff. They will relay to you the outcome of your test(s). They cannot explain the result to you in detail, but can give you the general outcome of the test.

You do not need to make an appointment to find out the results of your blood test unless your doctor has specifically asked you to however it is advised that if you wish to discuss your results you can call and request a non-urgent telephone consultation with a GP.

NHS staff, patients and visitors must continue to wear face coverings in healthcare settings, unless they are exempt.

Please help us reduce the risk of infection for our staff and patients by following this guidance.
