Making an Appointment

The surgery is committed to improve appointment availability by enabling patients to see a GP within 24 hours of a request.

Pointing you in the right direction……

When you request an appointment in person, on the phone, or online our GPs have asked that members of the Reception Team seek basic details from you about your medical concerns. This is not intended to be intrusive and full confidentiality we be rigorously maintained at all times.

While you are not obliged to give this information it will greatly assist our medical team in managing your appointment request more effectively.

We thank you for your cooperation which is greatly appreciated.

Online Booking

Please see separate page on Patient Access Services here

We offer a facility enabling patients to book appointments online via the Patient Access online service accessible from the link above. To register for the service you will need to complete an application form to give permission for your medical record to be accessed by a web service. You will then need to register to use a web service using the activation codes you will be sent when your application is processed by the surgery. Please be advised that this email comes from EMIS not the surgery.

When bringing in your application for processing you will need to provide 2 forms of ID, one which contains Photo ID and another which confirms your address we have on file.

Extended Hours

The Surgery is part of the Taunton Federation Improved Access Scheme, this means that you are able to book an out of hours appointment at one of the other Federation practices, who operate appointments between 18:30 and 20:00 weekdays and Saturday mornings on a rota basis. Please contact reception to book a suitable appointment.

Please see the GP Access information poster at foot of this page for more details.

Same Day Appointment

The practice operates a triage system for on-the-day requirements, this means that all requests for same day treatment will be sent via our qualified ANP who will determine the best course of action for you acute issue and advise accordingly. This may result in a GP appointment, direct referal to another service such as physio assessment of an appointment with the ANP themselves.

Pre-bookable Appointment

For an ongoing condition, a follow-up appointment or to book a requested appointment (for example if a GP wishes to see you as you have been sent a letter) a forward booked appointment can be made up to 30 days in advance. We will try and match your needs as closely as possible with regard to GP, time and day.

Follow up Appointment

The GP may advise you to make an appointment, following a consultation, in ‘n’ weeks time. The receptionist will identify a time for you as close as possible to the target date with the Doctor of your choice.

Telephone Appointments

You can request a telephone appointment instead. Telephone appointments are 5 minute slots and are part of a GPs normal surgery. Please make sure you let the receptionist know the telephone number you can be contacted on for the duration of the clinic as the GP may not contact you at a specific time. Although we prefer to call you back on a landline for a telephone appointment (due to line quality) you will be asked to confirm the telephone number the GP will be calling you on, which can also be a mobile phone provided you plan to be in an area with mobile reception when called.

To Make an Appointment

Choose one of the following options:

  • Telephone Wiveliscombe 01984 623471 (Press 2 to speak to a receptionist).
  • Visit the surgery in person where the receptionist will be on hand to help.
  • Log in to Patient access (or your chosen online access portal) where a selection of appointments are made available to book online.

The following points should be noted:

  • Please do not telephone for an appointment before 8.30am. Appointments can be booked between 8.30am -6.30pm.
  • Please try and avoid calling before 9am for a pre-bookable appointment.
  • It is advisable that children under the age of 16 be accompanied by an adult.
  • We will make an exception to this rule if the parent telephones and speaks to the doctor beforehand, explaining the reason why they cannot accompany the child to the surgery.
  • Please do not bring additional members of the family to the surgery without an appointment. The GP will only deal with one patient per appointment.

Home Visits

If you are unable to attend the surgery for an appointment due to ill health then you may be eligible for a home visit.  Please make a request for a Home Visit before 10am and your request will be triaged by our Duty Team to determine level of urgency or whether alternative care is required.

NHS staff, patients and visitors must continue to wear face coverings in healthcare settings, unless they are exempt.

Please help us reduce the risk of infection for our staff and patients by following this guidance.
